Maureen Hansen, Triple Stardust Still Life 2022, Oil on canvas, 61 x 76 cm

Carbon Kaleidoscope: Self-portraits in Still Life

These still life paintings are compositions  of fields of colour, the way the light bounces off poured Murano Glass or reflects a painter documenting the scene. All of this is gathered in this moment but preserved in drawing   with oil paint from scratch and never using photographic reference- painting from LIFE… that is how to catch time. – Maureen Hansen (catalogue extract)

Bianca Beetson, History, herstory, theirstory, ourstory 2017/2021

Past, present, future

It does not just reflect a literal reworking of the artist's archive through a process of remaking, overlaying and inserting people and place. But it also echoes a few words used when an acknowledgement of country occurs, often taken out of context but having a much deeper meaning. Past, present, future; explores the notion of time and space; and the fact time is non-linear but circular. The work explores how we can simultaneously exist in the past, present and future through connection to our ancestors, our land and ways of knowing, being and doing.

This exhibition features older, reworked, and new works that all relate to the artist's connection to country and her identity.

Opening event
Saturday afternoon, 27 August from 3pm

Exhibition dates
27 August – 24 September 2022
