This exhibition encompasses Kintsugi and the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche.
Kintsugi is the traditional Japanese art that glues together broken pottery parts with gold, making them stronger than before they were broken.
The ‘Self-Overcoming’ by Nietzsche indicates the process of accepting one’s weakness and current situation to create a more resilient and better self.
For me, both of these concepts remind me of converting past inner conflict to a strength, allowing me to protect my personal values.
日本の『金継ぎ』とニーチェの哲学から着想。
壊れた器を漆と金で直し、以前より強く美しくする日本の伝統的文化と、ニーチェが説く「自己克服」という思想、欠けた自分を嘆くのではなく、その破片を自らの意志でつなぎ合わせ、より強い存在へと変化する。
一度壊れたものを自分の意思でつなぎ直そうとする行為。私にとってそれは、過去の葛藤を受け入れ、それを強さの源泉に変える意志、大切なものを守るための意志である
